Twitch chat etiquette
These are some (now written) unwritten rules to keep in mind while being a part of any streamer's chat!
Always check if the streamer you are watching has rules. Different channels will have various different rules or lack thereof.
Don't talk about other streamers inside another stream even if they are friends. It is considered rude.
Never advertise your own channel or ask to be promoted or shouted out by the streamer.
Most streamers don't like to hear how many viewers they have. They can see the number from their dashboard just fine. Often what this does is create more pressure. If the caster isn't worrying about the number drop then you shouldn't either!
Listen to the channel moderators! If you see someone with a sword by their name they are a moderator of the channel you’re watching. They can answer questions and are there to keep the chat and the community safe.
Don’t say you’re leaving to go watch someone else stream, it’s rude to announce that, just leave.
Be patient if a streamer doesn’t reply to you right away, chat can move quickly. If a streamer doesn't answer your message in chat they either haven't seen it yet since they're busy with something else, or they do not want to answer the message because they are uncomfortable with it or for any other reason. Remember streamers don't owe you answers!
Do not vent or trauma dump. That can be triggering and uncomfortable for both the streamer and the other users in chat.
